Does anyone else have a hard time being indoors when the sun is shining on a beautiful day? Our winters are so long and grey and dark here in the northern tier, that anytime the sun is out and the skies are mostly blue I feel guilty if I’m indoors.

Which means on these beautiful kind of days my housework never gets done! We stop inside, drop things off, grab food, and hustle back outside. Which means my mudroom and kitchen table are dumping grounds, which also happens to be one of my pet peeves, but beautiful sunny days, I’m as guilty as everyone else.

I think this originated in my childhood, we spent 6 years stationed in Anchorage Alaska and the set rises late and sets early in the summer there. I was always perfectly content to lie inside and read books, but my mother insisted we play outdoors any time we could. So much so that now I feel guilty missing out on sunshine!

Luckily we live in a place where lakes to swim in are abundant and our outdoor community pool is fantastic! I also have a dear friend who has a beautiful pool in her back yard, where the poolside chairs are good but the company even better! When I am home and not traveling in the summer you can find me at one of those three places! My car stays packed with “the pool bag” and “the snack bag”, beach chairs and towels, I am always ready.

What’s YOUR favorite thing to do in the summer?
