We have spent spring break in Destin Florida for many years. I absolutely love it there, I love the sugar white sand that feels like powdered sugar between your toes, I love the shades of emerald of the gulf, I love the fresh seafood, I love the moderate temperatures-which feel very warm after a Michigan winter. I love the family friendly atmosphere on the beach and around town, I love the shopping, seriously I love everything EXCEPT the crowds and the traffic.
Mark likes the climate, enjoys seeing the ocean, but is not a beach goer and one thing he will not do is wait for seating at a restaurant. So we’ve adapted, going for late lunches/early dinners when we eat out.
This year however, we mixed it up a little…. we stayed in Niceville, across the mid-bay bridge. It was a 20 minute drive over to the beach, but that wasn’t a big deal, our mornings were spent sitting on the porch over looking the bay drinking our coffee.
And there was NO traffic, and NO lines to get into restaurants, none! No wait at all! And the restaurants were fantastic!!! We had dolphin shows almost every morning, watched blue birds, pelicans, a crane or heron (?) named Josephine or Jacquelyn…. we’re not sure yet… crabs, ducks, seagulls and a strange late night visit from a Pygmy goat.
Niceville: “nice place, nice people, nice town!
