Destin and the South Walton area of Florida are one of my very favorite places to be. I absolutely love it there. We took our first spring break there in 2003, after hearing about it from friends, and have gone back every year since (except for the two we spent in North Dakota where they don’t do spring breaks.

There are no theme parks or racetracks in this area of Florida, there is the Goofy Golf located on the Eglin Parkway in Fort Walton Beach, but that isn’t the appeal. Sugar white sand and emerald colored waters are what draws us every year.

There are two different areas here we have stayed (and have friends who live in both)and they are both very different.

My favorite areas to stay in Destin are The Emerald Shores gated community, most of the 50 + houses are available for rent (VRBO or Emerald Shores by Owner), and many of them look like they were decorated by Pottery Barn. We have also stayed on a quieter end of Destin called Holiday Isle (Holiday Isle Properties Inc), where the prettiest lagoon in the area is located (right by the jetty).

The 30A area of South Walton Beach is a 24 mile corridor that runs along the Gulf of Mexico between Destin and Panama City. There are lovely little towns all along this road and a 19 mile long bike path that makes for a beautiful way to get your daily exercise. The wonderful part of 30A is that there are not high rises and no retail chains, just lovely little shops and restaurants and buildings that are only a few stories high. It’s so beautiful in this area that my daughter planned for 3 years to have her senior pictures taken here by a good friend of ours who lives here and is a professional photographer.

Because this is one of my favorite places, I’ll make this an ongoing subject and go into detail on my opinion of the best places to eat, shop, and stay.

And TOMORROW is the day that the new line “Spotless” by Rodan + Fields is released! Tomorrow you can finally purchase this two step line for teens and young adults! Click here for more info!
